Discounts for people with disabilities

What discounts are available for people with disabilities and in which circumstances?
With your Austrian Disability Pass, you can now travel at a 50% discount with ÖBB throughout Austria. You do not need a discount card, but can save money directly every time you travel with ÖBB.
- 50% discount on ÖBB standard single tickets for passengers travelling in Austria (through all sales channels)
In order to take advantage of this offer, you will need an Austrian Disability Pass or Disabled Ex-Service Personnel Pass with the following details:
- Indication of the degree of disability of at least 70% or
- Entitlement to "claim reduced fares as per the Federal Disability Act".
-
Why is the Vorteilscard Special/Blind no longer available?
We are making things simpler for our customers. People with disabilities have been entitled to a 50% discount on ÖBB standard single tickets since 1 January 2014, even without a Vorteilscard - this means that the Vorteilscard Blind, Special and Veteran are no longer available. The only requirement is an Austrian Disability Pass in accordance with the Federal Disability Act (Bundesbehindertengesetz) or a Disabled Ex-Service Personnel Pass with a minimum degree of disability of 70% or with the note "can claim reduced fares as per the Federal Disability Act". The aforementioned ID must be presented during a ticket inspection on a train.
-
As the holder of an Austrian Disability Card, will I also receive a discount from transport associations?
The discount depends on the particular transport association. For more information, please contact the transport association in question.
-
Can I travel with a companion or an assistance dog free of charge with my Austrian Disability Pass or Disabled Ex-Service Personnel Pass as before with my Vorteilscard?
Blind passengers, wheelchair users and war veterans with a degree of disability of at least 70% can travel with a companion free of charge. This also applies to passengers with disabilities whose disability pass states "The holder of the pass requires a companion" and to foreign travellers who can prove the need for a companion with official documents.
-
How much discount am I entitled to with an Austrian Disability Pass?
You are always entitled to a 50% discount on ÖBB standard single tickets.
-
How do I claim my discount if my Austrian Disability Pass states a degree of disability of less than 70%?
If the degree of disability is less than 70%, the following entry is required in your disability pass to qualify for an ÖBB fare reduction: "can claim reduced fares as per the Federal Disability Act". This entry can, for example, be applied for at the Ministry of Social Affairs Service (Bundessozialamt) if you receive a care allowance.
-
Is the RailPlus discount still available with an Austrian Disability Pass?
No, representatives of people with disabilities and the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection (bmask) were actively involved in the changeover from the Vorteilscard Special/Blind to the Austrian Disability Pass. This discount cannot be claimed because the annual card fee and the card have been cancelled. The respective national regulations apply abroad.
-
What do I need to bear in mind when buying tickets (online, ticket desk, ticket machine)?
The relevant reason for the discount must be stated or selected when purchasing tickets (e.g. "Austrian Disability Pass").
-
Why is there a minimum 24 or 48 hour notice period?
For organisational reasons, it is necessary to inform our staff in advance about any assistance required at the station. Unfortunately, assistance staff are not available at every railway station.
The 48-hour notification period is required for arranging assistance with boarding and alighting with our partner railway companies.
-
What are the advantages of pre-booking my travel arrangements?
- Check the accessibility of railway stations and trains
- Arrange a time and meeting point
- Find information about available services
- Coordinate your space requirements (wheelchair space)
Customers can use our assistance services free of charge.
