How can I get a Schulcard?
You can download the Schulcard order form at www.oebb.at/schulcard and send it to the address indicated on the order form or by email to schule@pv.oebb.at. You will receive your Schulcard within 2 - 3 weeks.

When can I start booking tickets with my Schulcard?
As soon as you receive your Schulcard and PIN code.

Are there any additional costs involved if I get a Schulcard?
No, the Schulcard is provided completely free of charge and there are no additional costs.

How much does an additional Schulcard cost?
Up to 10 Schulcards will be provided free of charge per school or youth organisation; € 4.- will be charged to the ordering party for each additional card.

Can a Schulcard be used to make payments?
The Schulcard has no payment function. Schulcards can only be issued online.

How long is a Schulcard ticket valid for?
The online ticket is valid for 2 days.

Who can get a Schulcard?
Austrian schools, universities and technical colleges, kindergartens, youth centres, youth organisations (scouts, youth clubs, youth sports clubs), associations.

What is the minimum group size required for the Schulcard to be valid?
The Schulcard is valid for groups of 6 or more young people.
More than half of the group must be young people or students under the age of 26. Young people over the age of 19 must have an additional valid Vorteilscard Jugend (Youth Advantage Card).

What should I do if there are more than 50 people in my class?
Simply divide them into several groups (book several online tickets).

Do I have to show my Schulcard on the train?
The Schulcard is only used as a tool for online bookings and does not need to be taken on the trip. This means that you only need a single Schulcard for your entire school or youth organisation.

Can I use a luggage service?
You have the option to use ÖBB’s Haus-Haus Gepäck-Plus luggage service. You can book this either at an ÖBB sales point or by telephone on 0800 0800 11.
Reservations and booking

Is a seat reservation mandatory?
Reserving seats on long-distance locomotives (RJ, RJX, EC, ICE, IC, D) is generally mandatory for Schulcard groups. For local trains (CJX, REX, R, S), groups of 30 people or more must make a seat reservation - groups of up to 29 people do not need to reserve seats.

Where can I make a seat reservation?
You can book your seat reservation for groups of up to 28 people yourself in your ÖBB School Account. It is now possible to book tickets and reservations separately using the self-service system.
For 29 people or more, reservation requests can be made up to 7 days before departure. After a short time, you will receive an email confirming your request (note: this is not yet a reservation confirmation). After successfully making a reservation request, you will later receive a reservation confirmation by e-mail.

When can I reserve seats?
The advanced booking period starts 180 days before the beginning of the trip. As a general rule, the sooner you reserve your seat, the sooner adjacent seats can be provided.
You can now make seat reservation for groups of up to 28 people in your ÖBB School Account. A seat reservation is only valid together with a valid ÖBB Schulticket.
Online reservation requests for 29 or more people can be made using the reservation form up to 180 days in advance and up to a maximum of 7 days before departure.

What do I do if the online seat reservation doesn’t work?
You can now book seat reservations for groups of up to 28 people yourself using your ÖBB School Account. Select your chosen connection, for which a price will be displayed. Once in the shopping basket, the system checks whether your group can be seated next to each other. If this cannot be done, you will see the message "reservation not possible". Please choose an alternative connection.

Are there any deadlines for reservation requests for 29 or more people when using the request form?
For groups of 29 people or more, online reservations can be made up to 7 days before departure. Later reservations can be made at 05 1717-2-2, subject to availability.

How much does it cost to reserve a seat?
Seat reservations for groups cost € 1.- per seat for bookings made with an ÖBB Schulcard.

How do I pay for my seat reservations?
You can now book your seat reservations for groups of up to 28 people in your ÖBB School Account. The costs will be settled through the respective monthly invoice.
For groups of 29 people or more travelling on long-distance services, please make a reservation request up to 7 days before departure. You can assign the costs to your school/club/youth organisation by entering your Schulcard number and they will be charged on your monthly invoice.
There are no costs for notifying us of journeys on local public transport. -
When can I book a Schulcard ticket?
The advanced booking period starts 180 days before the Schulticket’s first day of validity.
Download your tickets as PDF files as late as possible – preferably 1-2 days before the trip. Tickets can only be cancelled, exchanged or refunded in specific circumstances.
It is important that you reserve your seats in plenty of time! You can now make your seat reservation for groups of up to 28 people directly in your ÖBB School Account. A seat reservation can be booked independently of a ticket purchase.
For groups of 29 people or more, please make a reservation request.

Can I book a ticket at a ticket desk or at a ticket machine?
No, tickets can only be booked online through your ÖBB School Account.

Do I have to register with ÖBB to be able to book tickets online or via mobile?
Yes. You must register first. To do this, you will need your Schulcard number and your PIN. Each person is free to choose a password. Several people can also register with the same Schulcard.

Are there any trains that I cannot use with a Schulcard?
Yes, night trains (NJ and EN) generally cannot be used.

What are the network limits for bookings in combination with network youth cards (e.g. Top Youth Ticket)?
The following network limits apply for cross-network journeys with network youth cards.

What should I do if I can’t find my PIN code?
You can request a new PIN from our Customer Service team by calling 0800 0800 11. Please note that delivery takes 7 days.
Cancellation

Can I cancel a Schulcard ticket?
As long as the Schulcard ticket that you ordered has still not been obtained as a PDF or printed, the services you booked can be cancelled according to the valid cancellation conditions.
Cancellation policy
- Cancellation is possible free of charge before the first day of validity.
- Cancellation up to 3 days after the first day of validity incurs a fee of 50% of the fare, but at least € 15.- per person. The outward and return trips are treated as two one-way tickets.

Can I cancel my Schulcard seat reservations?
As long as the seat reservation has not yet been downloaded or printed as a PDF, the booked service can be cancelled subject to the applicable cancellation conditions.
Cancellation policy
- 180 days to 15 days before departure: 100% of the reservation price refunded
- 14 days to 1 day before departure: 50% of the reservation price refunded
- On the day of travel - no cancellation possible

What happens to my ticket and seat reservation if I need to reduce the number of passengers?
Partial cancellations are not permitted. You can cancel your Schulcard ticket and seat reservation subject to the applicable cancellation conditions.

When are tickets booked with a Schulcard invoiced?
Invoicing are always issued by the 10th day of the following month, so there may be unintentional overlaps from time to time. Payment is made by means of a payment slip or SEPA direct debit mandate from your account.
