Why is it necessary to state the name of the traveller when purchasing a ticket?
The names of the travellers must be stated on a PDF ticket and also on a mobile phone ticket so that the ticket can be clearly assigned to a person and any misuse can be prevented.
-
How far in advance do I have to buy a ticket - can I do this on the train?
As a general rule, PDF tickets or mobile phone tickets must be purchased before boarding the train for local, regional and long-distance train, tram, bus and U-Bahn (underground) services.
With the SimplyGo! check-in/check-out ticketing function, a travel pass must be created by starting the journey before boarding the relevant form of transport. Please note that different conditions apply for some forms of transport (e.g. U-Bahn).

Why are connections displayed on shop.oebbtickets.at that cannot be selected or can only be booked as a section of the journey?
If you are shown a ticket option for the entire route, but there is no offer available or only on part of the route, please purchase your ticket for the rest of the route at a ticket counter or ticket machine or by calling ÖBB Customer Service on 05-1717. If you cannot find an offer for an ÖBB service, it is possible that this train is already fully booked.

No, ÖBB standard tickets are valid on all ÖBB trains (except night trains) for the selected route for 2 days from the point at which they become valid. -
Are Einfach-Raus tickets bound to a specific train?
Einfach-Raus tickets are valid on all local and regional trains between 9 am and 3 am on the following day. Any requirements to travel on specific trains are clearly stated in the ticket offer and on the ticket.

Ticket formats
-
What formats are tickets available in?
Once you have paid for your ticket, you will be asked how you would like to receive your ticket. You will usually have three options: as a mobile phone ticket in your ÖBB Tickets app, as a PDF ticket to print out or as a vending machine ticket to pick up at the station. The default option is a mobile phone ticket.
Mobile phone ticket: You will need a smartphone (Android or iOS) with the ÖBB app installed and an ÖBB account. If you launch your ÖBB Tickets app on your smartphone and are logged in, a little tab with your journey will appear on the home page of the app. You can access your ticket there at any time.
PDF ticket: Once you have purchased your ticket, click on the "Get as PDF ticket" option and then on the red "Create PDF ticket now" box. A preview of your ticket will then be displayed on the screen. Click on the Print PDF tickets link just below the preview. You can then save the PDF ticket and print it out in A4 format. You will also be sent an email with a link to the PDF ticket. You can then download and print out your PDF ticket at a later date. The PDF ticket is only valid in conjunction with a photo ID.
Vending machine ticket: After purchasing your ticket, click on the "Pick up at station" option and then on the red "Create pick-up code now" box. A preview of your ticket will then be displayed on the screen. You will find the 12-digit collection code immediately underneath. You will also receive an e-mail with the same code. You can use this code to collect your ticket at any railway station in Austria - either from a ticket machine or at an ÖBB ticket counter. Your vending machine ticket is only valid in conjunction with a photo ID.
Please note: you can also have the 12-digit collection code sent to you by text message.

-
How can I allow for longer transfer times?

-
Why do I have to buy a second ticket if I set a longer transfer time?
