Payment process in the Ticket Shop

• By what means can I pay online (shop.oebbtickets.at) or via mobile (ÖBB app)?
  • With a card (or product) from the following providers: VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club
  • With a debit card
  • By online transfer: eps online transfer
  • By PayPal
  • With a voucher
• What information do I need to have at hand when purchasing with a card?

  At ÖBB ticket counters or at ÖBB travel agencies, either a signature or your PIN code is required when purchasing a ticket. 

  You will need your PIN code when paying at ÖBB ticket machines. 

  Entering your PIN code is a secure method of verifying your payment. If you have any questions about your PIN code, please contact your card provider directly. 

  If you wish to pay by card online or via mobile phone, you must also enter the card verification code (CVC 2) in addition to your card number and expiry date. To authorise your card payment, your card-issuing bank may request additional security checks - for example, you may need to enter your 3-D Secure password. 

  Tip: to speed up your booking, you can conveniently save your card as a payment favourite in your ÖBB Account. This saves you having to enter your card details again for every subsequent purchase.

• What are the benefits of the 3-D Secure procedure or other security requests from my card-issuing bank and how do they work?

  The globally recognised 3-D Secure procedure or other security checks authenticate cardholders by means of additional security checks, e.g. entering a password, and are used to make your online card payments even more secure.

  This is how the payment process works with 3-D Secure or a security prompt...

  If your card-issuing bank supports the 3-D Secure procedure or other security prompts, a dialogue window from the bank or card issuer will open when you make the payment. In this window you will find the security prompts - such as password entry or TAN entry. Only once you have entered your details will the transaction be carried out and the booking finalised. 

• What if I do not yet have a 3-D Secure password?

  Some card issuers allow registration during the purchase process. If this is not possible, please contact your card issuer to register for the 3-D Secure procedure.

  If you have any questions about the 3D Secure procedure or have forgotten your password, please contact your card issuer or your card-issuing bank directly. 

• What is a payment favourite and how do I create one?

  A payment favourite is a stored payment method (e.g. credit card) that you can use for making a payment in the app every time you make a booking without having to enter the details again.

  You can save your payment favourite after the first successfully authorised booking: to do this, confirm the purchase by card payment with "Pay now" and store the payment favourite in your ÖBB account once payment has gone through by clicking "YES, REMEMBER".

• Can I pay for anything with PayPal?

  You can use PayPal online or on your mobile in the ÖBB App as a user with an ÖBB account or without an ÖBB account. However, you cannot use PayPal for the following exceptions:

  • Purchasing a Vorteilscard
  • Paying for Schulcard bookings
• What happens if a connection error occurs in the middle of the payment process? Will the ticket price be deducted twice from my account as soon as I repeat the booking?

  If you receive a booking confirmation despite a connection error, your payment went through successfully. If you do not receive a booking confirmation, please call the ÖBB Customer Service team on 05-1717. Our employees can check whether a ticket has been booked and whether payment has been successful by entering your name and the time when you made the booking.

• What payment methods can I use to pay at a ticket machine or ticket desk?

  The following means of payment are accepted at ticket machines and ticket desks:

  • Cash
  • Cards: Credit and debit cards (VISA, VPay, MasterCard, Maestro, Debit MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club)

  You can also redeem vouchers at a ticket desk. Exceptions are explicitly stated on the voucher.
