Purchasing tickets

• How can we find information about ticket prices with no obligation to buy?

  You can request support in planning your group journey via the contact form, at an ÖBB ticket desk or by calling the ÖBB Customer Service team on 05-1717.

• Are there any advance booking deadlines that we need to be aware of?

  The advance booking period for ÖBB tickets is a maximum of 180 days. The advance booking period may be shorter for travel dates around the timetable change in mid-December. Planned engineering works can also shorten the advance booking period. Group reservations must be made using the contact form at least 7 days before the start of the journey. 

• Where and how can we buy tickets?

  Group tickets for up to 6 people travelling together can be booked at ÖBB ticket machines, online or through our ÖBB app. If your group is larger, please contact the ÖBB Groups team using the contact form. Our colleagues at ÖBB ticket desks will also be happy to help you.

• Do we need an ÖBB Account to be able to book tickets online or via mobile?

  Signing up for an ÖBB Account is optional, but does offer a range of benefits.

• Are tickets the same price everywhere, no matter by which means we book them?

  The price may vary depending on the time of booking and sales channel. Information about our pricing system.

• What is the difference between self-service ticketing and the contact form?

  With self-service ticketing, you can book tickets for up to 6 people travelling together yourself. You can make and finalise the booking whenever you like.

  Bookings for larger groups are organised by the ÖBB Group Team. Send your enquiry using the contact form and the ÖBB Group Sales Team will prepare a free, non-binding offer for you. This is not yet a booking and can be tailored individually. Payment is made after making a binding booking by telephone (credit card payment) or at an ÖBB ticket desk (card or cash payment).

• One or more people in the group have a Klimaticket Ö, will this be taken into account?

  A Klimaticket Ö does not grant any further discount on the group price. If the journey is cheaper with a Klimaticket Ö, this is not included in the group price.

• One or more people in the group have an ÖBB Vorteilscard, will this be taken into account?

  The ÖBB Vorteilscard does not confer any additional discount on the group price. If the journey is cheaper with an ÖBB Vorteilscard, it will be excluded from the group fare and an individual ticket will be issued.

• One or more people in the group have an Interrail ticket, will this be taken into account?

  An Interrail ticket does not entitle the holder to any further discount on the group price. If the journey is cheaper with the Interrail ticket, this is not included in the group price.

• Do you offer personal advice to customers?

  Yes, personal advice is available either at an ÖBB ticket desk or by telephone on +43 05-1717. For groups of 15 or more, our staff from the Group Sales Team will be happy to advise you.

• Can we buy a ticket on the train?

  Passengers are only permitted to board local and regional trains (R, REX, S-Bahn, CJX) with a valid ticket. You can buy a group ticket for long-distance trains (e.g. IC, EC, RJ, RJX) on the train. On night trains (EN, NJ), the ticket can only be sold if there is free capacity. Please note that you pay the on-board price when purchasing tickets on the train.

• How do we collect the ticket?

  Online/mobile 
  You can download your tickets as a PDF or create a mobile ticket using the ÖBB app. Within Austria, you do not need to print out the PDF tickets; simply show them on the screen of your device (e.g. smartphone). The mobile ticket is only valid in conjunction with the device you used to create the ticket.

  At a railway station
  Alternatively, you can print out the tickets on security paper at the station. You will need a collection code to do so. You can request this when you make your booking. Tickets can be printed out at ÖBB ticket machines or at ÖBB ticket desks. We recommend picking up your tickets at an ÖBB ticket desk.

  By post
  We will be happy to send you the tickets by post for a fee of € 5.-. 
  Please note that different conditions may apply when purchasing international tickets. Some tickets, for example, can only be purchased at an ÖBB ticket desk. This information will be provided when you make your booking.
