Train delays

Train delays

In principle, you are entitled to compensation of 25% of the one-way fare of your ÖBB ticket for delays of 60 minutes or more, and 50% for delays of 120 minutes or more. However, this compensation will not be paid if it amounts to less than €4. Special compensation conditions apply to international pass offers, package deals, the climate ticket and season tickets.

In the case of exclusive use of local and regional trains (designated in the timetables as Regionalzug, Regional-Express, Cityjet Xpress or S-Bahn), without these being used in conjunction with long-distance trains on the basis of a joint ticket, there is no entitlement to compensation in the event of delay.

The passenger rights for rail transport also apply to ÖBB intercity buses. In this context, they are treated like long-distance trains.

You can obtain a confirmation of the delay either from the staff of the delayed train or directly online up to 7 days after the journey. You can also obtain a confirmation of the delay at any ÖBB ticket counter or request it by sending an e-mail to our customer service.
