Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an incomparable musical genius; his legacy is a significant part of the cultural DNA of the city of Salzburg. Nowhere else in the world are the composer and his music so palpably alive as in Mozart’s Birthplace on the Getreidegasse and the Mozart Residence on the Makartplatz.
In Mozart’s Birthplace, the particular atmosphere of the original home and the exhibitions “The daily routine of a child prodigy”, “Mozart in the theatre” and “Myth and veneration” bring the musician back to life in all his facets. A facsimile of the newly discovered Mozart piece KV 626b/16 can also be admired here, just like Mozart’s childhood violin, his clavichord and the last original Mozart portrait by Joseph Lange.
In the Mozart Residence, the exhibition “The Mozarts - a family of musicians” has been upgraded and shows testimony from the lives of father Leopold, mother Anna Maria and sister ‘Nannerl’. In the master ballroom, the famous “family portrait” is exhibited alongside Mozart’s original pianoforte.
Highlights:
The “Mozbook” in the Mozart Residence makes Mozart’s life accessible even to young visitors in a social media style. And the mobile quiz at Mozart’s Birthplace makes the visit all the more exciting especially for children and young people!
