Gift Voucher Cards

• Which services can an ÖBB gift voucher card be used for?

  An ÖBB gift voucher card is valid for all ÖBB services that can be purchased at shop.oebbtickets.at or via the ÖBB ticket app. You cannot redeem an ÖBB gift voucher card when purchasing an ÖBB Vorteilscard or for ticket purchases with an ÖBB Business Account or ÖBB Schulcard (school group travel).

• How long is an ÖBB gift voucher card valid for?

  An ÖBB gift voucher card is valid for 10 years from the date of purchase. ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG accepts no liability for loss, theft or damage.

• What happens if the ÖBB gift voucher card has expired? Can I extend the period of validity?

  No, it is not possible to extend the validity of a voucher.

• Where can I buy an ÖBB gift voucher card?

  ÖBB gift voucher cards (ÖBB Geschenkgutscheinkarte) are available from selected ÖBB retail partners. ÖBB gift voucher cards can currently be purchased at the following sales partners:

• When does an ÖBB gift voucher card become active?

  An ÖBB gift voucher card is worthless until it is sold at the cash desk of the relevant retail partner. Only after this can it be used.

• Can I return or cancel an ÖBB gift voucher card? Can I get a cash refund?

  No, it is not possible to get a refund or cash payment for a voucher.

• Where can I redeem an ÖBB gift voucher card?

  An ÖBB gift voucher card can only be redeemed when booking online in the ÖBB ticket shop at shop.oebbtickets.at or via the ÖBB app and is valid for ÖBB services offered there (incl. ÖBB Sparschiene). You cannot redeem an ÖBB gift voucher card when purchasing an ÖBB Vorteilscard or for ticket purchases with an ÖBB Business Account or ÖBB Schulcard (school group travel).

• Where can I find the voucher code for my ÖBB gift voucher card?

  The voucher code can be found under the scratch-off panel on the ÖBB gift voucher card. The ÖBB gift voucher card has a 16-digit voucher code and consists only of numbers.

• How do I redeem an ÖBB gift voucher card?

  Once you have added your journey to the shopping basket, please click on "Redeem voucher". Now enter your 16-digit voucher code. The amount of the booked ticket will be automatically deducted from the gift voucher card, leaving the remaining amount on the voucher.

• What happens if the amount on the ÖBB gift voucher card is higher than the cost of the booking? Will I receive a new voucher for the remaining balance?

  The remaining value stays on your voucher code and can be used for your next booking. Please keep your 16-digit voucher code in a safe place.

• Can I redeem multiple ÖBB gift voucher cards?

  Yes, you can redeem several ÖBB gift card vouchers that you have purchased previously in one booking. There may be restrictions relating to other vouchers, e.g. promotional vouchers. Please refer to the redemption conditions of the particular voucher.

• Do I have to register in order to buy tickets online at shop.oebbtickets.at or via the ÖBB app (i.e. create an ÖBB account) so that I can redeem an ÖBB gift voucher card?

  No, this is not necessary. Tickets can also be purchased via the ÖBB ticket shop (shop.oebbtickets.at) or through the ÖBB ticket app without having to register. Any residual balance will remain on your voucher code and can be used for your next booking. Please keep your 16-digit voucher code in a safe place.

• Can I save my ÖBB gift voucher card in my ÖBB account?

  Yes, you can save vouchers in your ÖBB account in the "My vouchers" menu. Any vouchers you have saved will automatically be suggested for redemption the next time you make a purchase.

  Please note: even though you have saved your voucher code in your ÖBB account, it remains active. Please keep it in a safe place until it has been fully redeemed. The voucher is also saved the first time you enter the code in the shopping basket. If there is any remaining balance after the booking has been completed, this can be used for future bookings.

• Is there an overview of how much of the voucher has already been spent?

  No. However, you can view the current balance of the voucher in your ÖBB account at any time.

• Is the ÖBB gift voucher card I have purchased tied to me? Can I give the ÖBB voucher card as a gift?

  An ÖBB gift voucher card is not tied to a specific person, you are welcome to give it as a present.

  The voucher is automatically saved in your ÖBB account the first time you enter it in the shopping basket when making a booking. It will be displayed for you to redeem each time you make a new booking. If you no longer wish to use the voucher yourself, you can remove it from your ÖBB account and give it to someone else. Make sure you keep the voucher code in a safe place.

• Can I resell an ÖBB gift voucher card if I don’t need it after all?

  No, ÖBB gift voucher cards are not to be resold.

• What happens if I make a mistake when entering the details of an ÖBB gift voucher card?

  If you enter an invalid or already redeemed ÖBB voucher code, it will be indicated on the website and you can enter another code.

• I have not redeemed the ÖBB gift voucher card, but the ÖBB gift voucher card is no longer valid. What is the reason for this?

  Your voucher may have already expired or been blocked. Please contact the Customer Service team on 05 1717.

• What happens to my redeemed ÖBB gift voucher card if the scheduled train is cancelled on the day of travel or is so severely delayed that I can no longer make the scheduled connecting trains and therefore cannot keep my appointments?

  The ÖBB gift voucher card is considered to have been redeemed and can no longer be used. Reimbursement or fare compensation in the event of train cancellations or delays is provided on the legal basis of Regulation (EC) No. 1371/2007 on Rail Passengers’ Rights and Obligations (Passenger Rights Regulation), the Rail Transport and Passenger Rights Act (EisbBFG) and the applicable tariff and transport conditions of the operating railway companies. This reimbursement/compensation is provided regardless of whether the ÖBB gift voucher card was redeemed when the ticket was purchased or not.
